From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
