French officials have consented to begin stopping migrant vessels in the Channel, after an extended period of insistence from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift follows the Prime Minister sent a letter to the French leader urging him to support the plan and saying there presently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French maritime police will be allowed to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their migrants, according to authoritative statements.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to stop the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered too great a danger to both officers and individuals.

"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this period... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Now, a French naval police spokesperson states officers will begin taking action at sea, with the objective of protecting lives.

Significantly, the official ruled out the use of nets to intercept boats, which had previously been reported as a possible technique to snarl the propellers of the vessels.

The decision to take action at all is a significant step forward, following a brief shift towards a stricter approach this warmer season, which dropped off when the previous government official left office.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, preceding a meeting between the Prime Minister and President, when French police were witnessed walking into the sea to slash the hulls of a boat.

Now French officials will again be permitted to intercept boats prior to they pick up asylum-seeking passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be prevented.

Strong winds are presently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the people-smuggling gangs will be seeking ways to adapt to avoid detection, as they have done so often in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
