Government Official States MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense minister has revealed that the MoD is currently examining the potential threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in all cars.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but emphasised that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing risks of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

The announcement comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining lasers at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This wider defence environment underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of government activities, including transport usage to discussions practices.
